Pokemon Enter The Dragon Online Competition: Team Analysis

Hey there, Haaziq here with the report on recent Pokemon online competition, Enter The Dragon contest. This competition is quite unique as players can use any Pokemon in the National Dex. Yes, any Pokemon including the legendaries though you could only use up to two normally banned legendaries. Players also need to include a dragon type Pokemon in their team and the contest will run in double-battle format like VGC. The twist is instead of bringing six Pokemon, players only need to register four Pokemon in their team so there's that. OK without further due, let's go with the team report.

The Team

Darkrai

Timid @ Mental Herb
Ability: Bad Dreams
EVs: 4 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Dark void
- Dark pulse
- Sludge bomb
- Protect

The main lead in my team. Dark void is such a good move, a coverage type move that puts the enemy into sleep. The only downside is it could miss and the miss costs me some games throughout the competition. I used mental herb to prevent any taunt shenanigans but I rarely met such situations int his competition which makes me regret a little bit using such item on Darkrai. Moveset is pretty standard, dark pulse as main STAB attack and sludge bomb to counter fairy Pokemon.

Whimsicott

Timid @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Tailwind
- Safeguard
- Moonblast
- Taunt

My answer to other Darkrais. Safeguard and taunt are pretty good in countering dark void and other potential Pranksters. Tailwind is pretty essential for my team as my main attackers are pretty slow in movespeed. Moonblast is there to cover the fighting weakness of Darkrai.

Primal Groudon

Adamant @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought / Desolate Land
EVs: 222 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 20 Spe
- Precipice blade
- Rock slide
- Fire punch
- Protect

My main physical attacker. Adamant and max attack investment so that it can dish out as many damage as possible. Only 20 evs on speed as it is enough to out speed most pokemon with tailwind support. Moveset is also pretty standard so there's not much to say about it.

Altaria / Mega Altaria

Modest @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud nine / Pixilate
EVs: 196 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 60 Spe
- Hyper voice
- Fire blast
- Ice beam
- Protect

This is my first time using Mega Altaria in competitive battle and I just want to see how does it fare against other Pokemon. Its evs allows it to out speed most megas like Mega Metagross and Salamence in tailwind. The moveset might be a little weird as I include ice beam in it. Reason being is that I'm not really sure what other moves are best to fill spot and it might be mistake to include it. After using it, I just feel like some changes need to be done in regards with its evs spread and moveset. Mega Altaria can still OHKO Mega Salamence but falls behind other popular megas like Kangaskhan and Metagross.

Closing thoughts

This competition was quite fun actually since you could bring your legendary Pokemon into competitive battle, something that isn't possible under standard rules. It was nice to have this kind of competition so that you could take a break and try weird things on your team which I encounter many times in this competition. Overall, my record ended with 20-10 after starting 9-1 on Day 1. Day 2 was quite unfortunate as I got the most losses on Day 2. This record puts me in 1486th placing with 1623 rating points.
